Effect of gender and disability on gross motor performance in kindergarten children.


This study sought to explore the interaction of disability and gender on gross motor performance. Utilizing a national dataset, the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study - Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 dataset (ECLS-K) researchers utilizes a 2x2 Factorial ANOVA to understand the effects of gender and disability on gross motor score. A sample (N = 9,584) was utilizes and revealed a non-significant effect of gender and disability, however, both gender and disability demonstrated significant effects (p < 0.05). The simple effect findings revealed significant results between the group with and without disability within males (F(1, 9580) = 272.529, p < 0.05, partial eta2 = 0.028) and females (F(1, 9580) = 460.012, p < 0.05, partial eta2 = 0.046), as well as between gender groups within the group with disability (F(1, 9580) = 30.387, p < 0.05, partial eta2 = 0.003) and without disabilities (F(1, 9580) = 255.042, p < 0.05, partial eta2 = 0.026).
